To the editor
I’m writing this letter in honor and memory of my dear husband Russell Pullen who I lost in death Feb. 9, 1987. Russell was bom and raised in the Amiss ville area. After our marriage we moved to Falls Church to live. Russell became a paid fireman for Arlington County. He loved .and was dedicated to his work.
When he retired we moved back to the Amiss ville area where he was still an active man. He worked on our small farm where we had cows and horses, but Russell still had that Fireman in him. As a member of the Amissville Volunteer Fire Department I watched him work day and night; there wasn’t anything he would not do to support it. He spent so much time there that our placed started to suffer. I became so frustrated that I was ready to sell our home.
A good friend of mine found out and told me that I was wrong and should be proud that he was so dedicated. It was at that point that I decided to became a member of the Amissville Ladies Auxiliary, where I held the office of President and Vice President. Russell held the office of Chief for seven years. He not only supported the Firemen but the Auxiliary as well. When Russell was Chief there was a lot of respect between the Auxiliary and the Firemen. He assisted the Auxiliary in
