A Shrove Tuesday pancake sup* per will be served on Tuesday, March 3, at Trinity Episcopal Church in the town of Washington. Pancakes will be served from 5 tor ? in Stewart Hall. if.
The supper is sponsored by the Trinity Church chapter of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew. Tickets will be available at the door. The prop, ceeds will be used for the chapter’s Outreach projects in the community.
Shrove Tuesday pancake suppers were first held in churches early'in the 15th century in Europe.; The purpose was to use the final day of the Mardi Gras season as a last day of merriment preceding the quiet and discipline of the season of Lent. The serving of pancakes came about through the housewives’ desire to use up surplus food that could not be
kept over the 40-day period of absti-’ nence during Lent.
The Trinity Church chapter of the Brotherhood plans to make the' Shrove Tuesday pancake supper an annual event.

Mr. and Mrs. Hercial Treadway of Elkwood announce the engagement of their daughter Zelda to Harold B. Estes Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold B. Estes Sr. of Culpeper.
Mr. Estes is currently employed with Merrill Detective Agency in Manassas.
Miss Treadway is attending Piedmont Technical School.
A June wedding is planned.
