“There’s a little bit of a gamble . . . We’re counting our chickens* * little early,” warned Supervisor Net. son Lane, adding that the supplemental appropriation will “t«ke away from the surplus we thought we’d have in the general fund.” * ,
Dr. Gangel took exception, maintaining that the increased enrolment is an “unexpected phenomenon . . . The past superintendent didn’t expect it. The state didn’t expect ^t,”
Supervisor Charles Estes questioned the need to buy new bleachers for the gym, asking why the dd seating couldn’t be used. “I sit on tne bleachers all the time. I don’t find much wrong with them. ”
Dr. Gangel explained that the old bleachers would have to be cut down to fit the new space, that it would be almost impossible to find additional seating to match, and that mechanical problems are making it incmtsingly difficult to pull out and push back the old bleachers.
With no further discussion, the board voted unanimously to approve the supplemental appropriation.
“But that’s two cents that canid have come off next year’s tax rate," Mr. Lane added, this time drawing* correction from Supervisor Miller who repeated that the additional $46,690 which the county will get in state aid for education was not anticipated and thus was not included in calculations on the general fund’s projected balance for the end of this fiscal year.
Moving from finances to personnel, Mr. Lane complimented the hewj superintendent, saying, “I’ve heard' more good reports on Dr. Gangel‘ than anything else about this school system during my time here.” \
“The only thing that bothers me about it is every time he comes up here, he gets what he wants! That could be dangerous.” /
