Marque and Ann had decided they were ready for the challenge of calling the shots in their own establishment. “We had an idea of what it could be — its potential — after working there,” Marque said. “When it closed we actively pursued it.”
The stage was set. Mrs. Robson met Marque and Ann while making a visit to the cafe, and found out about their interest in owning the restaurant. Lois and Arthur made a visit to Rappahannock in June, and met Marque and Ann.
It was at that point that they began to consider the idea of a partnership. From a financial, as well as a labor, standpoint, Marque said, it seemed to make sense. “We wanted to be on-premises owners, but we didn’t want to burn out at the same time,” he said.
