The Shenandoah Natural History Association is asking for assistance in producing illustrations for a new publication on the story of the human past of Shenandoah National Park. The book, being written and researched by Darwin Lambert, will be published by the Association as an interpretive publication for Shenandoah National Park. The project was launched in 1985 and has now advanced to the illustration stage.
People of the eight counties surrounding Shenandoah National Park are being asked to help locate old drawings, paintings, photos, or maps, showing past activities, persons, and situations.
“Local families, historical societies, libraries and newspapers have been very helpful for the last two years in finding the facts for the book,” said Mr. Lambert, “and we are now asking these people to help locate pictures.”
“Though there are already numerous photographs of Park activities and development, pictures of mountain residents and their typical activities during the 20th century would be useful,” he added, “and there is a need for illustrations of people living in or near the mountains before 1830, or early drawings from books or magazines showing scenes or activities typical of the Park area.”
