The Lions Clubs of Virginia will again award their annual musical scholarships to talented youth in 1988. The competition is named for composer J. W. Bland, the Virginian who wrote the state song, “Carry Me Back to Ole’ Virginny,” among many others.

Each year, local Lions Clubs nominate talented youth from their areas to represent their areas in the contest. At the local level, the most outstanding students are selected from those who enter the competition.
