Coffehouse
A gallery coffeehouse will be held this Saturday night, March 12, from 8:30 until 12 at the Middle Street Gallery in Washington. ‘Killer Bee’ program
The so-called “killer bee,” a short-tempered honey bee imported from Africa to Brazil for experimental purposes, escaped captivity in 1956 and has spread northward. A videotape report of a conference on this Africanized bee will be presented at the meeting of the Northern Piedmont Beekeepers Association on Thursday, March 10, at 7:30 p.m. in the Community Room of the Jefferson Savings and Loan Building, 701 S. Longer hours at Commissioner
of Revenue Office
The Rappahannock County Commissioner of Revenue Office will be open from 8 a m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday during March and April to offer additional assistance during tax season. County residents are urged to take advantage of the longer hours. Anyone with questions or comments is urged to call Commissioner of Revenue Beverly Atkins at 675-3513.
‘An American Tail’
The movie An American Tail will be playing at the Gay Street Theatre on Saturday, March 12, at 2 p.m. and Sunday, March 13, at 7:30 p.m. A melting-pot movie for youngsters from the amazing storyteller Steven Spielberg, this film is a classically drawn and effect-filled tale about a family of Russian mice who flee the Cossacks for the cobblestones of New York in 1885. Young Fievel Mousekewitz is swept overboard on the voyage to America, but washes ashore safely in a bottle. The story focuses on the brave little rodent’s search for his beloved family. Produced and directed by Don Blutch, the movie is rated G. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for children. Note: This film will be shown on Saturday at 2 p.m. only and Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
Fashion show planned
The Rappahannock Woman’s Club will sponsor a fashion show on the theme Luck of the Irish Sunday, March 13, at 2 p.m. at the Rappahannock Elementary School. Advance tickets may be purchased from any member.
Sight and hearing screening
The Lions Club mobile screening unit will be in Rappahannock County on March 10 and 11. The van is equipped with the latest vision and hearing-testing equipment, including diabetes and non-contact glaucoma testing devices. The testing is free and available to everyone.
