To the editor:
The final meeting on the Amissville Landfill will be held Friday, March 11, at 1 p.m. at the courthouse in Washington. The meeting is not limited to Rappahannock residents. Since it borders Fauquier and Culpeper counties, those citizens are urged to participate, as well as others concerned about the Rappahannock River.
Prior to permitting the landfill, the state’s Department of Waste Management official Berry Wright will address questions from concerned citizens. Persons unable to attend the meeting may call Mr. Wright at 1-800-552-2075.
Of major concern still is the disposal of leachate, toxic chemicals produced by the landfill. Waste management officials have stated the leachate poses a greater health hazard than the landfill itself.
