From 1980 to 1981, Mr. Wade served on special assignment to the Organization of American States to assist Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean in establishing a system of national parks and protected areas.
Earlier in his career, he served as a chief ranger at Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina (1977-80); on loan from NPA to NPS to New Zealand as a senior lecturer on national parks at Lincoln College (1976-77); instructor at the Albright Training Center in Arizona (1973-76), and area manager at National Capital Parks in Washington, D.C. (1971-72). He was a park ranger at Yosemite National Park, California, Mount Rainier National Park, Washington, and Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona.
Mr. Wade has been closely associated with emergency search and rescue operations and in 1983 received the Hal Foss Service Award from the National Association for Search and Rescue for his contributions on a national basis.
A native of Mesa Verde, Colo., he is the son of Jack Wade who for many years was the chief ranger at Mesa Verde National Park. He is a graduate of Fort Lewis College in Durango, Qolo.f with & BA in business administration and biological sciences. His wife Sherrie is from northern New Jersey. Mr. Wade has one son and a daughter from a previous marriage. Michael, 22, is a student at Northern Virginia Community College and worked last summer as a seasonal employee at Wolf Trap Farm Park. His daughter, Mylea, 20, is planning to continue her college education in Virginia as well.
Mr. Wade will take up his duties at Shenandoah the latter part of March.
