Convinced the site is unsuitable for a landfill, with its abundance of water and close proximity to the Rappahannock River and heavilypopulated areas, concerned citizens have spent $12,500 to date in their fight against the site, and several hundred have signed petitions.
Since this meeting represents the last opportunity citizens will have to impact this important decision, Jackson District Citizens chairman Lorraine Early urges all to participate.
The group’s consultant, Timothy Saylor, director of chemistry and earth sciences with Buchart Horn Inc., is reviewing the final plans. He finds that scientific testing has not been completed for determining what the water system is doing, whether it is artesian, regional or perched, or a combination water system that exists on the site.
