Of the numerous hazards and deficiencies cited as arguments in favor of the plan to continue the four lanes of Rt. 211/522 from Washington to Sperryville, the one most infrequently mentioned is. in my opinion, the one most urgently in need of rectification. It is also the problem about which absolutely nothing isgoing to be done, according to the present plan.
It seems to be a most astonishing paradox that many of those most vociferously crying Safety in favor of the four-lane extension are. at the same time, most adamantly opposed to a by-pass that would eliminate the two successive 90-degree turns in the town which must be negotiated by drivers going to or coming from Rt. 522 south of Sperryville. In a reversal of the paradox, those who see the advantages of such a by-pass are often opposed to the four-lane highway.
