College bill could expand the scope of federal jurisdiction over state and local governments and the private sector - from churches, to farmers, grocery stores and businesses of various sizes. In addition, the Grove City bill would impose extensive federal regulations and paperwork requirements on many sectors of American society.
I opposed this bill and supported a substitute bill which also reversed the Grove City decision, but which made it clear that institutions closely identified with religious tenets would be exempted
Rep. Slaughter represents Rappahannock County in the US. House of Representatives. The second-term congressman is a native of Culpeper County, where he still lives.
