I did not make an effort to amend the bill in committee to make the limit 65 mph for both trucks and cars for fear the governor would use his influence to have the bill amended again on the Senate floor (or in House-Senate Conference Committee) back to the original dangerous 65-55 posture.
I do not accept the argument that an increase in the speed limit on rural interstates would automatically result in an increase in traffic deaths. In fact, with proper enforcement of speed laws, it may be that there would be no significant increase in the actual speed.
