Time is quickly approaching for the Eighteenth Annual Festival of Leaves sponsored by the Warren Heritage Society. This year it will be held this weekend, Oct. 8 and 9. Many local organizations cooperate to make the Festival a fun time building community spirit, one of the organizers said.
Saturday at 9 a.m. a reception will be hosted at the Farmers and Merchants National Bank. While some people are enjoying the refreshments and social gathering, others will be on the streets running in the 5-K Race sponsored by the Samuel’s Public Library. The Opening Ceremony will begin at 9:45 in front of the Warren County Court House.
The parade follows at 10:15. The new route begins at Sixth Street and Royal Avenue, moves South on Royal Avenue, turns onto Chester Street and finishes its route by moving West on Main Street. Marching bands, antique cars, horses, clowns and much more will delight the crowds.
The morning is still not over. Mosby’s Rangers will be on hand after the parade to demonstrate their Civil War calvary maneuvers. Betty Lenz’s Arabian horses will thrill the Festival visitor with an exhibition of equestrian skill, the spokesman added.
From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, ticket holders may visit the Royal Oak Craft Show at Morrison School, the Heritage Quilt Show in Belle Boyd Cottage, an Indian Artifact Exhibit in Ivy Lodge, the Confederate Museum, Williams Chapel C.M.E. Church, and get discounts from the Downtown Merchants who display the golden leaf in their decorated windows. Skyline Caverns offers a $1 discount on the entrance fee to the Caverns for the holders of block tickets. Block tickets will cost $3 for adults and $1.50 for students.
