• Approved an amendment to the proffer originally offered by Sheila O'Brien in the rezoning for her School House Restaurant in Flint Hill. The amendment allows Mrs. O’Brien to have two bed-and-breakfast rooms over top of the restaurant. The addition entails no changes to the existing exterior or interior of the building or to the Health Department permits for the restaurant's water supply and sewage disposal system, Mr. McCarthy noted.
• Authorized Chairman Hubert Gilkev to sign a letter of thanks to Culpeper’s Board of Supervisors for taking Rappahannock's solid waste for disposal for seven months until this county’s new landfill opened this week.
“If it hadn't been for Culpeper, we’d have been in deep water.” noted Mr. Gilkev.
"They were the only county that would help us," Mr. Massie said.
“Other counties actively picked on us when we were down, too,” said Mr. McCarthy, pointing out that Culpeper didn’t use the electionyear excuse put forward by other counties against taking "outside trash," even on a short-term swap basis.
If Culpeper hadn’t accepted the agreement whereby it disposed of Rappahannock's trash in return for Rappahannock accepting one-and-ahalf times that volume of Culpeper’s refuse plus paying hauling costs to the landfill here, “the only other alternative we had was Richmond at $1,000 a day," Charles Estes added.
