These days, John Dooley is in the dream business.

It is dreams that he fulfills with the innovative programs which have made the Northern Virginia 4-H Education Center a model for the nation. It is a dream that he hopes to complete with the $3.5 million fund drive he leads as director of the center.

City folks see 4-H as kids down on the farm, growing tomatoes for the county fair and raising a calf for a livestock show. And most country people don’t view this 74-year-old youth program much differently, although they might add sewing, canning, and other home economics skills, horsemanship, the polish at public speaking that comes from making presentations in 4-H competition, and the outdoor adventures
