Town's museum
given seeds
A member of the staff of Mt. Vernon, the home of George Washington, recently visited First Washington’s Museum. According to museum Curator Ruby Jenkins, the visitor gave her seeds from two Tulip Poplars which were planted at Mt. Vernon by President Washington in 1785.
The visitor, Miss Jenkins said, requested that the seeds be planted in Washington, Va., the first Washington,
Miss Jenkins said she was told that the two surviving trees at Mt. Vernon have grown to a majestic height, but are showing signs of their more than 200 years, as well as the effects of storms.
She asked that anyone interested in planting the seeds, either in the Town of Washington or elsewhere in Rappahannock County, call Ruby Jenkins (6753352).
