No matter the source, before any of the extra dollars can be spent, they must be formally added to the approved school budget by the supervisors.
Also, the Board of Supervisors will be asked for an appropriation to purchase new text books, the money to come from fees collected from book rentals.
In other action at its September meeting, the School Board:
• heard that enrollment to date is 10 students off what was anticipated for budget-building purposes, a drop which will mean roughly $1K,000 less than projected in state aid if numbers don’t go up by March, when the State Department of Education takes its official count.
• adopted with no comment proposed revisions to the school’s drug, alcohol, and tobacco policy.
• approved a Family Life Curriculum committee of 50, including I)r. Gangel and chairman Judy Tole. “Everyone who has shown interest” in the new’ state-mandated program is on the committee, the superintendent noted.
• heard from Dr. Gangel that he will explore other options for health insurance policies for school employees while continuing for the time being the coverage provided by Johnson and Higgens through the Virginia School Board Association.
