His mother, Toni Updike says Scotty does most of the work of taking care of his animals. He halter breaks young livestock, walks the lambs, steers, heifers and hogs, washes the animals and helps his dad, Randall Updike feed the rest of the stock on the farm. But then Scotty also gets help from mom, dad, his seven-year-old brother Justine and his five-year-old sister Katie. “It’s a family project,” Mrs. Updike affirmed.
A little assistance is to be expected; after all, this is Scotty Updike’s first year in 4-H and his first time in 4-H livestock competition.
