After fire regulations forced the Washington Volunteer Fire Department’s Ladies' Auxiliary to move its thrift shop out of the Town Hall building, the building is finally cleaned up, Councilman Nan Thomasson reported to the council last week.
The council purchased the thrift shop’s entire inventory for $1,000, and after sponsoring a “shop for free” day for the county’s needy, the rest of the clothing was sorted, boxed and donated to the homeless in Washington, D.C., and those areas along the Gulf Coast devastated by Hurricane Gilbert.
