Dear Friends of Animals:
We had hoped, this Christmas, to bring animal lovers a happy and optimistic report on the Shirley Minton Cageless Cat Shelter at Route 5, Box 300, Abingdon, Va., 24210. However, it is with sadness that we inform you that, at this writing, Mrs. Minton has been fighting for her life in the Bristol Memorial Hospital, Bristol, Tenn.
Shirley was doing well with her artificial heart valve. She underwent eye surgery in October and suffered complications. On Nov. 23 she became seriously ill. Mrs. Minton lapsed into a coma from blood clots on the brain and underwent emergency brain surgery on Dec. 2. More extensive lung and brain surgery may follow.
There are over 200 cats and kittens now at the no-kill shelter. Dan is trying to care for the animals and be at the hospital with his wife, leaving him no time to go to work. The
