Only calls requiring immediate action should be routed to the department’s emergency number (987-8525), Sheriff Woodward noted.
Last year, a similar rash of thefts of Christmas trees and other items was ended when a homeowner noticed a suspicious vehicle and telephoned the Sheriffs Department. When the truck was stopped it was found to be loaded with stolen trees. Further investigation uncovered evidence from the other thefts, and the two men involved have since been convicted of the crimes.
