But Mr. Simmons added that, after working as a mechanic since his days in the Army, he’s ready to step out on his own. “If I’m going to get my hands dirty doing work — I decided that I want to do it for myself.”
He plans to leave his present job, at Annandale Electric and Alternator in Manassas, in January.
Although Mr. Simmons provides farm machinery and heavy equipment service, he also does work on imported and domestic cars and trucks. “Electrical systems, ignitions, alternators, generators, we’ll take a look at them. ”
Pointing to the rows of drawers and boxes of parts in the neat shop he has created in his garage, Mr. Simmons assures a visitor, “No problem, it’s simple.” One of his latest projects was rebuilding the alternator on a Model A Ford. “They’re all basically the same inside.”
Mr. Simmons credited Wayland Ford with much of the business which has led to his decision to open his shop full-time. “They’ve been a good customer and a good reference, ^ord of mouth means a great deal.”
