He added that another probable regulation which will be enforced in the near future is the requirement that the water from the spring be chlorinated at its source. That, he said, would require additional equipment there.
The system also requires treatment equipment to remove excess iron from the water. That, Mr. Fisher noted, is an aesthetic problem of taste and discoloration rather than a contaminant which causes health concerns.
Mr. Fisher also presented the proposed financing for the project, which includes a $231,500 loan from the Farmers Home Administration, an additional $129,500 grant from FmHA. and a $700,000 grant from the Virginia Community Development Block Grant program.
Mr. Fisher also announced that the council had received preliminary approval of its application for the $231,500 loan from FmHA. The terms of approval, he said, include the council’s formal acceptance within six months, and also that the Virginia CI)BG grant money also be approved.
He told the council that he plans to use the FmHA approval of the loan to assist the town’s case through the state CDBG grant appro val process.
