A pile of wood
Many people heat their homes with wood, and most think that they go through a pile of wood during each winter. According to the Virginia Department of Forestry', Virginians burned 1.92 million cords ofwood during the winter of 1985-86. That is equivalent to 346 million gallons of fuel oil, and produced 48 trillion BTUs of thermal energy. Now that is a pile of wood!
