Compounding the problem is that recent studies have shown that pumping water from a major supply well near an area known as the Big Meadows Swamp is threatening the existence of several species of rare plants and salamanders found in this unique high elevation wetland. Use of this well was curtailed earlier this year in an effort to protect this area.
