Miller said, “is a disease which we all have."
Mr Morehouse objected, saying, "This is not irresponsible. We have tried to get the best engineers, and all costs have been certified. If we save money we will return them. This system is no Cadillac, but it might serve us another 50 or 100 years.” He offered to give Mr. Miller a copy of the engineering proposal for review, and to send his suggestions to Greeley and Hansen Engineering for consideration.
Former mayor Peter Kramer told the council he was heartened by its decision to fund the loan from the revenue from water bills.
Mr. Morehouse noted that the rise in water bills, from an average of $13 per month to $18, “is not out of line with small tow ns in the nation and state."
Mr. Kramer said that his concern was that if nothing is done to renovate the system, “10 years down the road we can't meet the regulations."
Mr. Fisher agreed, calling the increase in regulations for potable water in past few years, “orders of magnitude."
Mayor Morehouse questioned the ability, or safety, of residents of the town sinking wells to replace the municipal system if it fails or is shut down by the regulatory' authorities.
“Or. if we are hit with large fines for non-compliance." Mr. Fisher added.
