Lowest of the proposed salaries for beginning teachers will be in Warren County, where the starting salary is scheduled to stay the same as this year, $20,264. However, Warren County’s proposed school budget would add 2.4 percent to all other steps on its salary scale and in addition to pay the five percent of a teacher’s salary that the employees normally contributes to the state retirement system. Although some localities in Virginia have already been making this payment for their teachers, Warren will be the first county in our area to do so.
At the other end of the salary scale, the salary for a teacher with a bachelor’s degree and 30 years of experience, Fauquier will continue to be highest with a proposed salary of $38,366. Warren County will be second with a salary of $36,930, followed by Culpeper at $35,600. Page County will rank fourth of the six counties with a top salary of $33,000, followed by Madison County at $32,981.
Rappahannock will rank sixth with a top salary of $32,360.
In order to fund the proposed salary scale and raises of six percent for all school system employees, the school budget requires an increase of $300,284 in local revenues.
