nearly every conceivable side. After he graduated from school, he worked for the Commonwealth of Virginia as a bank examiner. The state has jurisdiction over all statechartered institutions, such as the State Bank of Remington. <
He also worked for United Virginia Bank (now Crestar) in Richmond before going into the consulting business.
Mr. Peterson is a native of Roanoke, and most of his family still lives in that area.
“I got tired of the rat-race,” he said when asked why he decided to move to a small bank in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. He sold his consulting business and left the metropolitian suburbs. “I wanted to get back to a simpler, saner lifestyle.”
Though many people told him they envied his position as head of his own company, Mr. Peterson said, in reality it sometimes left him with less control than when he was working for someone else. He found
