This represents a 13.9 percent increase in local tax monies going to support the $4.5 million school budget.
Again comparing the proposal with nearby counties, Fauquier County’s $47.7 million school budget requests an additional $7.2 million in local tax revenues, a 31.2 percent increase. Warren County also is asking for a significant increase in local taxes, $1.5 million or an increase ol 24.5percent in a $19.3 million budget. Culpeper County’s school budget requests an additional $716,000 in local tax monies for the $22.8 million budget, 7.5 percent more than this year.
Page County and Madison County school boards have approved school budgets which actually require fewer local tax dollars for next year than were approved for this year. Page County is asking $3,300 fewer local dollars for their schools for the coming year, and Madison County is asked to contribute $4,229 less next year than this.
The total percentage that Rappahannock’s school budget is scheduled to increase, if the supervisors approve it as proposed, is 6.6 percent. This is also the lowest rate of increase in the area.
