For the many people in Rappahannock who don’t know me, my name is Jeanne Drevas and recently — Alpin, and for those who do know me no further introduction is necessary. Through some twist of fate (my husband Carl’s job), after 14 years of living at the center of the universe, namely Rappahannock County, I find myself far-flung in Geneva, Switzerland. We’ve been here nine months and I thought it’s high time for some views of Geneva.
Number one, of course, is that everyone doesn’t speak Rappahannockian, but French and yes, you can set your Swiss watch by the prompt buses. After all those years of country bliss, how can I have not one, but two, bus lines running at the foot of our house lot.
Actually Geneva is still very underdeveloped as cities go with low buildings, except for the occasional international organization highrise. There are wonderful old stone houses and chalets, outdoor cafes (yes, already the tables and chairs have reappeared on the sidewalks), and just down the street there is a farm behind the Russian Embassy.
