Prison bars have a way of humbling even the most cocky offender, she added. “I’m a believer in incarceration. There are exceptions, of course, but for most it hammers home the message that they were wrong — the confined environment, loss of freedom.”
To recommend that someone be sent to jail is a hard decision she said, but she also gets satisfaction from the job, “when people do well.”
And, she adds, “I’m often thankful when I go home at night for what I have. I’ve seen a lot of people who never had a chance -- from the time they were bom.”
