never broken 3:20 in a race before the marathon in the Big Apple, his time was the result of extended training. “I put in a lot more miles and trained much harder,” he said. “I was running 50-60 miles a week, but I increased that to 70-80 miles and it paid off.”

That total has increased even more as Borgens has prepared for the Boston event. He has been putting in approximately 90 miles a week, running every day.

But come this weekend, Borgens will began decreasing his mileage . “A week or so before the race I will only run about eight miles and then I will taper off each day, until I’m not running at all two or three days before the race,” he said.
