For a baseball player, it’s the World Series; for a football player it’s the Super Bowl and for a golfer it’s the Masters—events that stand asrthe pinnacle of their respective sports. For the long-distance runner that event is the Boston Marathon and on April 16, John Borgens will culminate his sporting dream by competing in the prestigious race that begins in historic Hopkinton.
Borgens, a 37-year old Rappahannock County resident and head of Family Focus, a family counseling service with offices in Warrenton, Rappahannock and Madison counties, has already competed in 19 marathons, including three appearances in the New York Marathon.
Last November, in his last run through the streets of New York City, Borgens finished the 26-mile course in a time of 3 hours, 14 minutes, 12 seconds, breaking the Boston qualifying barrier of 3:15:00 and making him eligible for the upcoming race.
