At this stage in the budget process, however, federal funds can only be estimated. The budget of the federal government has not yet passed Congress. Dr. Gangel said he would expect to ask the supervisors to add to his budget if more federal funds become available.
Because Rappahannock receives relatively less in state funds, more of the budget must come from local taxes. For next year the percentage of the budget derived from local taxes is due to increase from 51 percent to 54.5 percent.
Fauquier’s budget shows a similar increase in the local proportion of the budget, from 58.1 percent this year to 63.3 percent next year. Warren County’s budget also shows an increase in the local proportion, from 35.9 percent this year to 38.8 percent next year.
In the other surrounding counties the percentage of the school budget coming from local taxes is due to decrease: from 45.9 percent to 44.9 percent in Culpeper County; from 30.6 percent to 28'percent in Page County, and from 42 percent to 38.5 percent in Madison County.
