Gangel decided for the coming school year to base his budget on the state’s estimate of Rappahannock’s ADM for next year, which is 904. The actual ADM as of March for this year is 921, up two from last year’s ADM of 919. Dr. Gangel said last week that if it turns out that next year’s ADM will be over 904, he can ask the Board of Supervisors for an increase in his budget next fall.
The other factor that causes Rappahannock’s revenues from the state to be lower next year than this year is that a new formula ranks Rappahannock County as one of the wealthier counties in the state and thus eligible for less help from the state. The formula is based on real estate sales, sales tax collected, and incomes reported. Rappahannock ranks particularly high because of real estate sales.
Rappahannock is also the only school division in the area to show a lower amount in the budget coming from the federal government.
