He has also appeared with Roger Mudd on the McNeilLehrer Report and has received support from people who saw that program through mail to his publisher. “We’re not going to be discouraged yet,” he said. “Most people don’t know I’m running.”
In these appearances he tries to make a few basic points, such as support for import taxes on German and Japanese goods, increasing the workforce by shortening the work week, and taxing great accumulations of capital. Some of his support has come from people particularly attracted by one of these positions.
His book on how the United States has become the world’s colony is due out in March or April. He hopes to use it as part of his campaign.
For now his campaign is planning to buy a full-page ad in the New York Times. “We will lay out the basic differences between me and the other candidates and challenge the exclusionist policies of the New York Times and the networks,” he said.
