Answering the plea for help, Mr. Fishback and eight members of the Jefferson ton and Amissville Methodist churches arrived in St. Stephen, S.C. with donated supplies, ready to re-roof, repair and rebuild whatever the crew was able.
Arriving to the town soon after the hurricane, the crew found trees four and five feet in diameter uprooted, roofs taken completely off homes, and debris piled five to six feet high on either side of the road as broken limbs and power lines had been pushed aside by bulldozers. '
“News accounts did not do justice to the damage done,” he said.
