Mrs. Swan was bom in CulpepdP on March 24, 1907, the daughter of the late John Norton Rosson and Gertrude Spicer Rosson. Her husband was the late J. Douglas Swan.
She was a member of Culpeper Baptist Church and the Culpeper Fire & Rescue Auxiliary.
Survivors include one son, James D. Swan Jr. of Culpeper; two grandsons, Steve Swan and David Swan and two great-granddaughters.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 27 at Culpeper Baptist Church Chapel in Culpeper with Dr. H.O. Browning officiating. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Culpeper Baptist Church, 318 South West St., Culpeper, Va. 22701.

Mary Fray
Mary Ellen Fray of Madison died Monday, Jan. 27 at the Culpeper Baptist Retirement Community. She was bom Feb. 5, 1903 at “Warwick,” Madison County, the daughter of the late John Dutton and Florence H. Jackson Fray.
-Education included elementary at private school at home. AttenddO Madison High School and was graduated from Mont Amoena Semianry, Mt. Pleasant, N.C. in 1922. Received B.S. degree from State Teachers College (JMU), Harrisonburg in 1928 and was President of Student Government Association. !
Miss Fray taught public schools at Upperville, Franktown, and Madison until 1941. She was Clerk of thle Local Selective Service Board for 28 years and a member of Hebron Lutheran Church. |
Survivors include a niece, Florence Ann Hall of Falls Church; four nephews, Robert D. Fray of Greenville, S.C., John Michael Fray of Fredericksburg, Joseph J. Fray arjd John T. Fray, both of Madison and 10 great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Hebron Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31 with Rev. James Baseler and Rev. J. Christopher Price officiating. Interment will be in church cemetery.
