Gangel’s projections were distorted is, of course, arguable. They may be wrong, but then again, they may be right. In either case, it is prudent, and in the best long term interests of the county, to act now, at a moment when red estate prices are favorable, so as to protect the county from higher prices later on if the need for a middle school should develop. If the need does not develop, the land would still be a county asset, to be used for other county purposes, or sold. Nothing would be lost.
I congratulate the Planning Commission for recommending a wise investment in the county’s future. If we can spend $495,000 to improve our waste disposal system, surely we can afford $100,000 to plan for the education of our young people.
