School adds
foreign flavor
Wakefield Country Day School at Huntly announced recently the initiation of an interim program for non-native speakers of English, whose school schedule leaves them with two months of vacation during the winter months in the U.S.
Pamela Lynn, interim headmistress, explained of the program that the school and the student would both benefit from the program.
“They will give us an international outlook and we will give them practice in speaking English,” she said.
The first of five such students arrived this past week. Diego Arango from Panama will be enrolled in regular grade courses. He will be expected to complete a program modified to his level of English. Diego is soon to be joined by his sister and three Koreans. Two Haitians already number among the regular student body.
“We have always sought international students,” said Mrs. Lynn. “They bring a taste of the real world, where tolerance of other cultures is increasingly essential. ”
