“The opportunity was there and I accepted it,” Mr. Fishback said.
Active in church-related programs since youth, Mr. Fishback said he doesn’t “have an answer” for why he has participated for so many years.
“It makes you realize how great the need is out there,” he said, a dark-haired man of middle height and weight. He lounges in an easy chair in the modest Amissville home he has called home for 11 years.
“I see the need out there and I’ve “ begun to look for it here at home,” he said.
Helping a nine-member church in Louisa County was a local example of his drive to help others.
“They needed some help,” he said, adding the two-day job was close-by, enabling more people from the local church, including his wife, to participate.
As a result of their help, he said, “the church looks better and the congregation is growing.”
Besides demonstrating a need to Mr. Fishback, his travels have made him “appreciate what I have.”.
“I feel guilty,” he said, thinking of homes in small Mexican villages with dirt floors or South African homeland dwelling without electricity or running water.
