; program, and in subsequent years lonly fifth 'graders will be taught IDARE. ! The 89 students last Friday all I received certificates of graduation 'and special Rappahannock DARE T! shirts. Four students were winners ! of their class essay contest, and read !the winning compositions in front of the assembly: Patty Atkins, ■Keirsten Kerr, Amber Charles and •Melissa Dodson. Also, the two winners of a license-plate design contest | were recognized: Kylene Wolfe (“DRUGFRE”) and Sarah Gentry (“IDODARE”). I Also attending the cermonies ; were about 25 parents of graduating , students &nd the entire RCES sixth 1 grade. Principal Dave Smith told the sixth graders they were invited “to see the end result of the program. You’ll be going through it next .year.” *. Sheriff John H. Woodward explained that the program is now in place and will become a regular part of the fifth-grade curriculum. He told the students that 80 percent of • the inmates in jail or prison in VirIginia are there as a direct result of ' drugs or alcohol.
