Don Kruger, a tenor who eafn^d his music degree from Princeton University and is currently music director at Woodberry Forest School, contributes pure and inventive harmonies throughout the recording.
Mr. Espinola, whose guitar playing is on hold while he battles tendonitis, plays tambourine on the tape and was engineer and producer. He mixed the sound on equipment at Woodberry Forest, where he is a music teacher.
Mr. Espinola said the revolution in audio technology in the 1980s provided him with affordable digital audio tape equipment, the basis for the new label, Creative Life. Manufacturing costs for small-label recordings have also come down in price, so the appeal for the Espinolas (with little children at home) to work out of their home was the impetus for getting started. “Collected Hymns” was manufactured at a plant in Philadelphia.
They said there have other projects in various stages of completion, and will see where Creative Life goes from here. The couple said they “need to create,” and “living here in the county it’s nice to have your own [recording capability.]”
“We were touring as a duo, Tom and I, before the kids were born and now we’re looking for ways to be creative and keep it at home,” said Ms. Duisit.
