Buffet breakfast

The Washington Volunteer Fire Department will sponsor a buffet breakfast from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15. The menu will consist of sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, biscuits, sausage gravy, pancakes, hash browns, baked apples, coffee, juice and hot chocolate. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under. Upcoming buffet breakfast dates are Saturday, March 21 and Saturday, April 18 which will include a Easter Egg hunt for the children. All proceeds to benefit Washington Fire Department.

Nursing test

Piedmont Technical Education Center will begin testing on Feb. 6 for those who are interested in applying to the Practical Nursing Program that begins in September. This is an 18 month course that prepares a graduate to take the National Council Licensure Examination for becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse (L.P.N.). Call 703-825-0476 to register or for further information about the testing and/or the program. A $6 testing fee is required at the time of registration.

Rappahannock Library book sale

( The Rappahannock Public Library will hold “a sweetheart of a book sale” from 9 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12 through Saturday, Feb. 15. Those interested in donating books are requested to bring them to the library on U.S. 211-522 in Washington, Va. Call 675-3780 for more information.

Hurricane exercise slated

Rappahannock will take part in “Zelda,” a hurricane emergency exercise sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management Agency during the period March 2-April 24, according to Col. D.C. Knuepfer, county Emergency Services coordinator.

Cither jurisdictions in Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware, Maryland and D.C. will also take part in the exercise.

A briefing by Col. Knuepfer will take place at 10 a.m. Jan. 22 in the Rappahannock Courthouse.

Culinary Hearts course

The Rappahannock Extension Office and Rappahannock Heart Association will co-sponsor the Culinary Hearts Kitchen course on Tuesday evenings in February. A,

The four-week course will be held Feb. 4, 11, 18 aiW25 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Rappahannock Extension Office.

The course covers heart-healthy eating and food preparation including demonstration of cooking techniques and tasting sessions.

There is a $10 fee to cover materials and demonstrations. Call 6753619 to register.
