“We talked about sending them food,” Mrs. Marshall said, adding Mrs. Purnell said this could “cause embarassment for the people. Thtpr did not need food like they need surgical supplies.”
Things are “so unsanitary. The water is polluted. There are few needles and no surgical gloves. Lives are lost for this reason,” said Mrs. Marshall.
Through Mrs. Purnell’s husband, the class became aware of one St. Petersburg city hosptial which serves orphans, The Raukhfusa.
With Mrs. Marshall’s assistance the idea of letter writing was created.
“This is an awareness program. It makes children aware of what’s going on in the world,” said Mrs. Alexander.
