FLINT HILL - Mark L. Jenkins, 14, son of Pete and Sandra Jenkins of Flint Hill, placed second in the half-mile run for the state in his age group and third in the softball throw on Saturday at the Hershey Track and Field meet for girls and boys sponsored by the Hershey Corp. and the Front Royal Parks and Recreation Department. The meet was held in Charlottesville. These wins were the culmination of a strong showing in the meet that began on May 22 in Front Royal when he won 1st place in three events, the 800 meter run, the 1,600 meter run and the boys softball throw.

At that point Mark, who was competing against eight districts, qualified to go to the Western District meet in Fisherville on June 13, where he won 1st place in the same three events in his age group, boys 13 to 14 years of age.
