ing his way with ill-gotten gains. I rather believe that if a person of perfect character, all virtue and no defects, qualified in all respects, ran for office, that person would be defeated by a campaign of propaganda that said “anyone that perfect is obviously dangerous and not to be trusted.”

So we will keep doing things the way we have been doing them and we will keep getting false promises.

Michele May

wins honors

Michele May of St. Joseph, Mich, and focus editor for the Herald-Palladium is a winner in the National Federation of Press Women communications contest. Awards were announced June 20 in ceremonies at the NFPW communications conference at the Sheraton Inn in Lansing, Mich.

Over 840 persons, winners in state affiliate contests, sent 1,711 entries to the national contest, where 470 members placed with 688 entries. Michele received a thirdplace award for her feature story, “After the Rape," on Sept. 22,1991.

Miss May was one of five state winners to place in the national competition, which attracted 1,700 entries from 843 members in 91 categories. Miss May won six firstplace awards at the state level, with all first-place entries advancing to national competition.

publishing and education. It^^R/ tional projects include liUPacy events, co-sponsored with n^spapers; educational seminars, youth communications contests, college scholarships and career events.

Miss May’s first newspaper job was as a reporter/photographer for the Rappahannock News in 1983.
