Charles Allen Brown, 27, is back in custody, a week after he escaped from the Rappahannock County Jail.

Maj. Ed Streapy of the Sheriffs Office said Brown was recaptured without incident Sunday evening behind Billy Menefee’s house on Main Street in Sperryville. Streapy said a report was received earlier that day that Brown had been sighted near Sperryville, and Deputy Chris Williams was sent to the area to investigate.

Streapy said he and Lt. Ray Jackson responded from their homes, and he requested Warren County’s tracking dog to aid in the search. After positioning Williams and Jackson in the field, Streapy
