Margaret Close
Margaret Gordon Close, a long time resident of Washington, D.C. and Amissville, died of cancer at her Hungry Run Farm estate on July 17. She was 63.
Bom in Oregon at the base of Mt. Hood, Mrs. Close attended schools in Oregon and Florida. She was a graduate of Bennett College in Millbrook, N.Y. and later lived in New York City. In 1953 she moved to Washington, D.C. where she was active in a number of charities including the Prevention of Blindness Society and the International Eye Foundation. Mrs. Close was a member of the Evergreen Garden Club and the Chevy Chase Club.
In 1977 Mrs. Close became a resident of Rappahannock County and was engaged in farming and the raising of steers at her 515-acre Hungry Run Farm.
Mrs. Close is survived by her husband, David Palmer Close and three daughters, Louise Close Matthews of Sudbury, MA, Katharine Close Brown of Berryville and Barbara Eriksen Close of New York City. A son, Peter David Close of Portsmouth and four grandchildren also survive.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 27 at the Church of Leeds, Markham, Va.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to the Margaret Close Memorial Fund, Church of Leeds, Markham, Va. 22643.
